Egad, Holmes, I believe you've got it! That float probably isn't
closing the valve at the top of the float chamber. As for replacement,
I'm pretty sure its the same part as for HS6 carbs (used on TR4As).
The difference between the HS6 and HS8 are in the jet assembly
and the body casting. The float chamber is the same.
I looked for this part last year and learned that original floats were
plastic with a brass arm that could be bent to adjust the float level.
However, the only aftermarket part available is an all-plastic piece from
Rover. Anyone know of a source for original floats? I'd like to get one.
The slight downward tilt of my engine makes the rear carb richer
than the front, since the fuel level is higher at the jet seat.
