Mark, I think the flexing might be the reason the factory ran some rubber
lines. But I think the flexing is only an issue between the engine and the
chassis. Thus the only real place you might need the rubber piece is between
the metal pipe from the tank and the fuel pump. Having two pieces of rubber
line here Laos makes changing the fuel filter easy since the rubber lines
can be "pinched" to seal the fuel.

Possibly another place you might want to put a piece of rubber is at the
tank outlet (same as the factory did). You wouldn't want the line to rupture
there due to frame flexing either. As for the lines once they are at the
fuel pump, I think having them all metal is the way to go. That part of the
system is completely rigid. no rubber is required here. In fact, that's
exactly what I did. You can see the results at
<http://www.cyberbia.com/peterz/tr6/carbs/fuel_lines.html>. I originally
replaced the lines due to some rust flaking in my carbs. But while I was
doing it I thought...what the heck, might as well make them all metal. The
rubber lines with hose clamps are kind of cheesy when you think about it
(JMO of course).
