When I bought My 72 TR6 it had an Audiovox unit with two posts. The
speakers were these very odd spherical Blaupunkt's. I have yet to see
anything like them. The radio plinth doesn't seem to have been altered. I
yanked the speakers and radio out and filled the hole with a blanking
plate. When I recovered the plinth. I didn't cut out the radio holes. Its
been ten years now without the radio in my TR6. I don't miss it one bit.
All the music I need comes from the exhaust pipes of that sweet sounding
six.
My antennae used to be mounted on the passenger side cowl in front of
the windscreen. Not the fender. AFAIK there is no proper mounting location
for the antennae as most radios were dealer installed. Not factory
installed unless a radio was specifically ordered. Even then it was
probably still installed by the dealer.

When I bought my 76 TR6, it had an Audiovox AM/FM Cassette installed.
I also received the original BL AM/FM 8Track. I'm trying to remember
the configuration of the original radio and can't be certain of its
configuration but I think it had the two posts coming out of the box on
each side of the tuner bezel. So far I am holding on to the BL unit,
but I'm not sure why.
Regardless, by the time I got the car, the Audiovox unit was in and its
installation had called for a rectangular hole the size of the unit
itself. If there was originally a small rectangle bordered on two sides
by a volume post and a tuner post, that metal was long gone. I pulled
the Audiovox unit out and replaced it with a Sony AM/FM CD and the
installation was a no-brainer as far as the fit went. The old box came
out, I filed the side of the rectangular opening to get a better fit and
in went the Sony. A plastic trim piece finished it off and it looks
like a pro installed it.
My car came with the antenna mounted on the left front fender.

Subject: "modern" radio for TR6
Does anyone know of a new AM-FM casette (brand and
model) that can be fitted
to a TR6 without doing alterations on the console?
Although I still have the
original Triumph AM radio, I would like to upgrade.
And where is the "proper" place for the antenna? Old
TR6 pictures show the
antenna in a dozen different places.
