Stuart and Randall have had their say. I'll add my 2 cents as most
folks do not have 6 TR6's to experiment with, nor do they drive them
exclusively.
I sold my "normal" depreciating cars in 1992 in order to borrow enough
money to build a house... driving the TR6 to work and planning to buy
a new car as soon as the house was finished...
For the $500/month car payment, I bought TR6 parts...
I avoided depreciation, lessened insurance and increased mpg.
The more money I spent on the TR6, the more it was worth!
I never bought another new car!
After 9 years, 160,000 miles, and 6 TR6's, 3 frame off restorations, etc.
1. I use DOT 5 in all the rebuilt cars
2. I've never worked on the hydraulics of a DOT 5 car
3. I've never changed the fluid and the fluid has never
changed from purple (worth buying the TRF DOT 5 for that special look)
I think the Post Office and Military have something here...
Oh, I admit wiping off seals that look okay and converting to DOT 5.
And, I admit to rebuilding the MC, front calipers and converting to
DOT 5 without doing the rears... not even draining them... meant
to do this ASAP, but that was 4 years ago...
Why do you think your DOT 3/4 stuff changes color in the MC? Water
absorbtion? Water is clear..., maybe eating of the rubber seals?
Whatever it is, I don't need problems.
The only NEGATIVE is the re-bleeding of the system after 2-3 weeks.
Don't think the "doesn't eat paint" is important... they never leak!
