The red mistress in the garage is back on the road after her winter
hibernation! None the worse for it apart from a hint of clutch plate lightly
stuck to the flywheel and one Iffy bulb connection.
Two problems left over from the previous year though require some thought.
The PO has done an excellent job of a full body re-build but for some reason
never managed to fit the hinged front end properly. It appears that the
whole assembly is shifted about 1/2 inch to one side, perfectly square, not
twisted. The adjustments only allow me to raise, lower or twist. The height
is fine and if I just twist (i.e. rotate it, looking from above) the front
door gaps become very unequal. What I need to do is be able to adjust the
front hinges 1/2 inch to one side but there is no obvious way to do this.
Ideas anybody?
No, the chassis is not bent, no damage anywhere and it was a long,
expensive, well photographed restoration, no corners cut etc.
Another question concerns the PACET solid state fuel pump fitted shortly
before I bought the car. They are sold as being quiet in operation but it
does not seem that to me! It works well in every other way and is mounted
correctly below the fuel tank, outside the passenger compartment, using
rubber mounts and flexible hoses. It has always been filtered as specified
and is now even wrapped in rubber sheeting for sound-proofing. It is now
just about acceptable but I wonder if the noise indicates a problem with
future reliability? Does anyone else use this pump, it is sold by
Moss/Triumphtune and looks like a small transformer with fuel pipe
connections. How noisy is yours!
