Alan has (as usual) given excellent advice. I'll add a few things about
jump starting :

If you are mixing grounds (ie jumping negative ground car from positive or
vice versa), DON'T connect "ground to ground". The idea is to connect the
batteries "plus to plus" and "minus to minus", but use the ground on the
vehicle with the dead battery as the final connection. (Personally, I've
always ignored using the ground, but it's still good advice. The idea is
to keep any sparks away from any hydrogen/oxygen gases produced by the dead
battery.) Keep your face away from the battery when making the final
connection, as there is a remote possibility it may explode, spraying acid
around.
Also, be very sure that there is no metal to metal contact (eg bumpers,
doors, etc.) between the two cars while the cables are connected.

Actually, your TR6 should be negative ground, as will almost anything else,
so it's probably not an issue for you.

Unlike many people, I feel it is far better to connect the jumper cables
with the source engine shut off. This is safer for alternator diodes and
any other electronics in either car (not to mention the operator !)

Charging from a battery charger is no problem, just match the polarities.
It's very common for people to convert LBCs from positive to negative
ground (sometimes even by mistake !), so vehicles that are supposed to be
+ground are frequently wired -ground.
