Following a recent engine rebuild of my TR3, I drove it about 500 miles over a
period of a month or so, and this week proceeded to check the head torque
specifications. I expected to only have to do a very slight adjustment, but it
turned out most of the nuts were about 1/4 turn off to get them to the
recommended 105 lbs. Is it common to be this far off? I haven't pulled a head
in many years and can't remember having to retighten. I have an inexpensive
torque wrench, but it seems to be ok. I also checked the threads of the studs
prior to replacing the head, and they weren't stretched. Now I wonder if I got
the torque right the first time....
