If the car is right, you don't have to add anything. I ran my first TR6 in
El Paso, TX (initially) and never needed to add a shield on the starter or
the carbs. Did many other things, yards of vacuum hose, had Apple rebuild
the carbs (merely a statement not a plug). Once I had it right, and it was
stock to include the thermal vacuum switch, it ran like champ, never let me
down and it was my only car. Drove it around the US, TX to AL, FL to PA.
