Hello everyone,
I am in need of guidance. I have a '71 TR6 that is in bad need of tires. It
has the original steel rims. I would like to replace these with panasports,
however, my limited funds prohibit that purchase at this time. I cannot wait
to save for the rims before I buy the tires so I have decided to purchase a
set to fit the steel rims. A VTR web page says that 215/70-15's will work
just fine on these rims. Is that true? Are there better choices? I would
like to go as wide as is acceptable by the car and the rims. I don't mean to
offend the purists (this car will never be in a concours area) but I don't
plan to spend the cash for redlines. I was looking at the Michelin XGT4
model. Any comments or recommendations? Also, I have heard and read stories
about the original steel wheels cracking. Anyone have any suggestions or
comments about this? Finally, if I do go with a modern tubeless tire will
the tire need a tube on the old triumph rim or does the tube requirement
depend completely on the tire and not the rim? I appreciate any help I can
get from this most knowledgeable group.
Thanks,
Marty L. Campbell
