In third grade -- circa 1961, I had about six weeks of Spanish; all these
years later I can still count from 1-10, but that's about all I remember
from third grade (ok, that, and Dona Harrington...but I digress). Thanks
to George Carlin in the early 1970s, I was able to increase my vocabulary
to 12 words ("Que Pasa" from Al Sleet, the Hippy Dippy Weatherman), but
that's about it. So when an inquiry came to the VTR Web site, in Spanish,
from a Colombian gentleman, I felt rather helpless to handle it.
At this time I'd like to publicly thank Jack Levy, Art Kelly, Phil
Pattengale and Hector Agostini for their very prompt responses offering to
translate. Jack was able to translate the message very quickly for me;
meanwhile, Phil's co-worker, from the same city/town in Colombia, also was
able to translate the message very quickly and even knew someone with a
similar name(!); Art, who lived in Colombia for some time and had visited
that locale, also translated nicely; and Hector even volunteered to
compose and send a response in Spanish with more information than I would
have been able to provide.
I greatly value the immediacy of this list; more importantly, I am ever
grateful to all of you ("Net" enabled or otherwise) who are willing to go
well out of your way to help a fellow hobbyist WHEREVER that person might
be. Whether it's a quick question asked and answered here on the list, or
a phone call, or a couple minutes under the bonnet at a club meeting or
car show, or even a "herculean" effort in the pouring rain -- I have yet
to encounter any shortage of willing and able volunteers amongst Triumph
folks.
