Well after reading all the responses I worked up the nerve to use the bolts I
managed to find in a box of bolts I found on my shelf. I now have the
engine on the stand and even had time to pull the pan. Peeking up inside
I'm quite please with what I see. The two cylinder walls that I can see look
nice and shiny with absolutely no scoring or marks of any kind. The cam
lobes look brand new and other than the gunk in the bottom of the pan the
inside of the engine looks great. I'm going to have a friend of mine that
builds sprint car engines stop by and have a look just to get a more
"informed" opinion! It doesn't appear that the rear main seal was leaking at
all. The only oil that was in the tranny bell housing looked like it was
coming from the input shaft of the transmission. Even the front seal looks
like its in good shape.
I'd like to thank everyone that responded to my questions. Its really
appreciated! I think I responded back to everyone that replied but if I
missed someone its probably because I'm a little excited at the moment!
Thanks again.
