Which came first; the people waving at the spitfires, or the friendly
drivers of spitfires? Maybe the drivers are friendly because people come up
to them and tell them what great cars they drive!
But. you may be right, it may be a working class thing. Offroaders are a
friendly bunch. And they're mostly working stiffs. Get them together in
the woods and you're guaranteed a good time no matter what economic strata
you're from.
You can be rich and be in love with the marque. You have to be rich to own
an all original pristine Triumph MK2. You have to be friendly too, if
you're ever going to find parts for it.
