Brad,
I can only relate to my everyday drive, a '86 JettaII. [I'm the
one and original owner.] It was fitted with a stainless system at
150,000 kms [~93,000 miles] when the rear silencer wore out on the
factory system. So far, it's still in great shape and the car have
now covered very close to 320,000 kms [~199,000 miles]. Meaning it's
covered 105,000 miles on all sorts of roads, mostly salted roads in
winter time to that. That's convincing enough for me at least, so
I've bought a complete double system for the '8. A car that will
take forever to cover that same distance...
So if You intend to keep the car - go for stainless!
