Spammers and email address sources

Most spammers pull email addresses off of usenet (newsgroups).  I noticed when 
I 
was active on rec.models.rc.land I started getting TONS of spam.  I changed my
email account, but kept the old one.  I now only use that account to send
messages and "register" my account with other questionable people.  I haven't
recieved a piece of spam in nearly a year, on this account anyway...
