Just a clarification: In most areas of CA, 73 and earlier cars
are not required to pass smog. I have not gotten a definitive answer
as to whether it rolls over to 74 this year.
If you own a 1974 or later TR6, the new California law does not effect you
car until the year 2003. The new statute immediately exempts all model
years prior to 1974. In the year 2003, the statue becomes a rolling 30-
year exemption, e.g.
2003 - 1974 exempt, 2004 - 1975 exempt, etc.
Keep in mind that the law only exempts you from having to submit the car
for smog check. It does NOT exempt you from having proper smog equipment
on your car. While no one would expect to be stopped for a visual smog
check, if the police had you stopped for another reason and noticed that
the smog equipment was removed from the car, you could be issued a ticket.
So beware....
