I'm having trouble getting the TR6 to run properly now that the weather is
getting cold. I think that the trouble stems from the fact that I have
NEVER been able to adjust the mixture so that it is RICH enough. It's
always been a little on the lean side. So, when the air cools, this has
the effect of leaning out the mixture because the air is more dense, right?
Anyway, I'm getting a lot of sputtering and spitting and misfiring. One
morning it was in the low 30s and it ran poorly, but in the afternoon it
warmed up to 55, and then it ran beautifully.

I've looked for air leaks in the intake and at this point I can find none.
I've just replaced all the PCV breather hoses with the correct hose from
TRF... I had been using 1/2" ID vapor hose from the local auto parts store
and it fit quite loosely and I suspected that this was one source of air
leaks. I've also replaced the manifold gasket, and I've checked everywhere
for leaks and I've even used the old carb cleaner trick, but that never
seems to work for me. (One time while looking for air leaks on my 240Z I
finally sprayed carb cleaner RIGHT INTO THE CARBS and nothing happened. Go
figure.)

Can I fiddle with the float level to enrich the mixture beyond what the
needle adjustment will allow? For instance, if the stock level is 5/8",
then what if I set it at 9/16" or something, allowing a high float level
and perhaps a richer mixture?

I should point out that these carbs have grose jets installed.

Thanks!
