Done the danged dimmer dance

Driving the Fab 4A along the 5 mile section of the Blue Ridge Parkway
tonight on my way home from work, (tee-shirt and shorts, will winter never
come?) I was reminded again how much I hate the floor-mounted dimmer switch.
Has anyone converted to a column mounted switch?  It doesn't seem like a
difficult project, but I've been Lucas bit before.
