Gordon, there are certainly TR-6's more modified than mine out there, and I'm
not even counting Dan Masters :-) I've done mine piece meal over 10 years.
Mainly when something needed repair/replacement, I went the performance
goodies. Then of course there's shipwright's disease. When I bought the car,
I thought I would keep it stock, but things change.
Mods include:
Engine -
10:1 compression
pretty lumpy cam (from BPNW)
ported head
ported intake manifold
header
custom dual exhaust
Lucas Sport Coil
Crane wires
Suspension -
poly bushings front and rear
upper fulcrum turned around for more neg. camber (ala JK Jackson)
Carrera front shocks
Apple HD rear shocks w. 40w oil
trimmed springs (lowered about 2")
solid steering rack mount
215/65-15 tires on Prime 15x7 wheels
General -
Holbrecht rollbar with diagonal brace and harness bar added
Autopower (TRW) harnesses
custom leather rim steering wheel
stereo (of course)
reinforced diff. mounts
poly diff bushings
Braided S.S. brake lines
Repco MetalMaster pads (stock shoes working fine)
Factory hard top with no headliner (for high speed events)
More to come as time and budget allow. I'm currently working on the engine and
it will probably get Spitfire cam bearings and a set of higher ratio roller
rockers. I may also go to a triple carb setup and ram air. The Quaife
differential is too expensive for me, but I have been toying with the idea of a
Datsun Z differential. It looks like it would fit fairly easy, they're cheap
and plentiful and if you find one from a 280ZX Turbo it will be a limited slip
unit (though probably in need of a rebuild). I'm also thinking about ditching
the 6 in favor of a Ford V-8, better performance, cheaper parts.
If I had to do it all over again, I would do it much the same. More money
would help, but who can't say that?
