Listers,
I was reading the recent thread about the horn failure reported by Jerry.
The horn on my Spitfire MkIII is also not working. The first think I did is
run a wire from the positive terminal on the battery to the horn. It made a
lame attempt at noise, and certainly sparked to show a current was flowing.
The next thing I thought of was the horn push. Dissecting the push, showed
a littlewear on the horn push (the bic pen with the wire through the
centre). I soldered an extra couple of millimetres to the non-springy end.
I then re-assembled the lot a nervously pushed the horn. I got a 'Click'
sound from somewhere, either in the engine bay, or under he console. Just
one click on the first push. Subsequent pushes of the horn produced
silence.
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I looked at the
wiring diagram in the workshop manual, and there is a horn relay, between
the two horns, and the steering column. Is this the problem, and what/where
is this relay box. (My wiring diagram has a large '17' printed the relay,
but I can't find this number printed anywhere in the engine bay :)
Regards,
Phil
