Listers,
I am replacing a burned manifold gasket, and once I
removed the manifolds and old gasket, I thought I would
examine the intake ports in the head with my finger.
Being a dentist, I could not resist. Well, to my suprise
I scraped up this heavy black tarry fim, like burned oil.
This was only in one intake port. I have an idea that it
is oil residue that has leaked down a worn valve guide.
Two other intake ports have lesser amounts of the same buildup.
The car runs great otherwise, and since the ports involved
are not fed by the same carb, I have ruled out an overly
rich mixture. I have noticed a noticable drop in the oil
level over the last several weeks.
Has anyone seen anything similiar? If it is worn valve
guides, it will have to wait for the engine rebuid.
Can this cause any serious damage to the engine?
Thanks,
