Listers,
I've finally taken the plunge and started on the rebuild of my TR4A.
I'm not sure yet whether I'll redo it as a TR4 or find a good frame and
keep it a TR4A. Either way I'll end up building a TR4 also.
While dismanteling the car this weekend I've found some interesting
PPO stuff that I found rather humerous. (To late to get mad!!). The
PPO removed the chrome beads on the rear fenders and filled them
with bondo. In order to keep the bondo from continuely falling down
into the boot he stuffed shredded paper up into that area. I had a
bitch of a time getting the wiring harness out from under all that
bondo.
The other thing the PPO did was to make new transmission covers out
of corrugated galvanized sheetmetal. Once this was inplace he then
fiberglassed the hole thing. Not sure what he had planned on doing
should he ever need to get access to the transmission. Took me
several hours and total destruction of this mess to get it out of the car.
It appears the the front fenders might be salvagable. They have some
portions rusted away but overall appear solid enough. I think the rear
fenders are in worse shape. Won't know until I can get the bondo
away from the bolt heads to see if I can get them off.
It will definitely need new floor boards, sills and rockers. Not sure yet
about the rear deck center panel. Has anyone purchased one of the
replacement units from TRF or VB? Was it good quality? How did it
fit?
Malcom, it would appear that my tub overall has less rust than the one
that you started with. For that I'm thankfull !!!!!!!
