Yeah, I agree with this. If the owner says that the car has "basically" a
"good" body,
or "a little rust," expect a lot of rust. Any rust is too much in my book,
particularly
when it originates from underneath the paint, a much worse scenario than
surface rust.
I looked around a lot before I got my TR6, and my guess is that a car going for
about
$3K will need another $2K to make it driveable; another $5K-$8K to make it
really nice.
My advice on this subject is always to "buy the very best car you can afford"
-- since
it is always cheaper to keep a car from degrading than it is to restore it
