My two cents about O/D lube: I've followed the TR3 owner's manual since my
first one in 1959 and have always used "the same as the engine oil" in all
my gearboxes, straight or overdrive. I currently am driving a '60 TR3 and
using Castrol 20W/50 in both the engine and the O/D unit. It's the smoothest
gearbox I've ever put together so there's no reason to even think of some
other lubrication choice as far as I'm concerned. Thru the years Triumph
issued conflicting bulletins concerning recommended lube for gearboxes: 90
wt one time and engine oil the next. I've never seen any reason to push that
heavy, smelly, energy wasting 90wt oil thru my gearboxes.
