Like many GT6 & Spit owners I have been experiencing a clunking in the
drivetrain of my '67 GT6. I've also had a bad vibration that kicked in around
65 - 70 mph. I checked the half shaft u-joints and even replaced one to no
avail. I then checked the driveshaft and found the front u-joint to be shot.
I replaced both u-joints and then fretted over whether or not I should spend
the $50 to have the driveshaft rebalanced. I decided on having it balanced
and am happy I did. The shop foreman said that it wasn't even straight
anymore. He said that it was up to 0.045" out of plumb which he said would
itself produce a bad vibration. They were very pleased with themselves that
were able to heat up the shaft and straighen it out, they then balanced it.

I asked him what would make the shaft get bent. He explained it as excessive
stress on the shaft. He said they see it all the time and threw out the
example of "having spining wheels suddenly grip when going from wet to dry
pavement" as what could cause it.

I'm expecting a smooth ride.
