Fellow listers,
Well, I'm back. What a great week in Hudson. I left last sunday for St Louis,
MO, spent the night there, and then drove up to northern Iowa, and spent
another night there, making a leisurley drive to Hudson on Tuesday morning.
The weather on Sunday and Monday was fierce - I fried on Sunday, but got
better sense and put the top up on Monday. Even with that, I drove most of the
way north sitting on the passenger seat, driving with my left hand only to
keep the left side of my face from cooking in the afternoon sun coming in the
drivers window.
By Tuesday, the special weather that the sponsoring club had ordered arrived
right on time - temperatures in the 70's, moderate cloud cover and gentle
breezes - and stayed for the remainder of the week. Perfect for a car show!
Minnesota Triumphs did a supurb job of organizing and running the show, with
no serious glitches. There were plenty of fun activities for every one, yet
plenty of time for socializing and just plain relaxing. Kudos to all!
I had the opportunity to meet several members of this list, but there were
still several there that I did not get to meet. Without exeption, the people I
met were what we here in East Tennesse refer to as "good folks." I would list
their names, but with my mind still adled from yesterday's drive, I'm sure I
would leave someone out (as this was my second LBC convention in two weeks,
having spent the previous week in Annapolis, MD for the MGBV8 get-to-gether,
my mind is quite confused as to whom I met where - I might even list an MGer
by mistake!).
I left the motel parking lot Saturday morning at 8:10 CDT, and drove straight
through, solo, stopping only for gas and food, for 18 1/2 hours, pulling up in
my driveway this morning at 3:35 EDT - a distance of 1033 miles! Ya gotta love
these TR6s - what other car could you drive that long in without wearing
yourself out? The TR6 with the high back seats is the most comfortable car
I've ever driven! The car performed flawlessly, using only 1/2 quart of oil in
2500 miles.
See y'all in Maine in '99!
PS: I've decided to put off swapping out my hard drive for a few days till I
get caught up on my correspondence.
