These Bosch units are good pushers but not very good suckers! A lot of
cars that have them as standard equipment have a small priming pump and
a small fuel cannister on top of the pump to ensure fuel supply.
Suggest you use an additional small solid state pre-pump to prime the
Bosch. The cheap ones that replace ordinary petrol pumps (Facit??) at
4psi are ideal to suck the feul through the CAV filter and supply the
Bosch pump. Then placement of Bosch pump is not as critical.

Small numbers are stamped on the pump body and these are the codes for
the various applications , most pumps are 5BAR pressure but vary in the
rate of fuel delivered. Bosch people have some chart which interpets
this code if you give them the numbers.
If somebody has this information or knows where it is, could they post
it??
