Gary, I just finished a frame off restoration on my 64 spitfire and
elected to use the Dot 5 (silicone fluid). It is harder to bleed but
not hard enough to warrant not using it. It is the most friendly
brake fluid you can use for protecting your paint. If I had to do it
over again I would still use Dot 5. I'm sure you'll get other
responses both ways. All I can say is it works for me and I'll be
using it in my TR4A when I get it done. I'll probably even use it in
my 51 dodge truck, although I will do some on road testing to see how
well that super heavy truck stops. Just as a safety test. I've had
to make some pretty rapid stops in my spit and the brakes felt just
fine.
