Subject:Defective Parts TR-6 Transmission
I'm currently rebuilding a 73 TR-6 (non-OD) gearbox. I'm at step #36 in the
Bentley Bible,
which measures total end float. I installed the adjustment washer, 2nd. gear
bush(top hat),
3rd. gear bush, sectioned washer (fitted reverse), and re-installed the
circlip. By the
way, the Bentley manual is inaccurate in this step-read it carefully. Total end
float
should be 0.003 - 0.009 inches.Mine exceeded this range. I ordered a thicker
adjustment
washer to reduce the end float into the 0.006 range.Being extremely partial to
TRF I
ordered part #129944 0.128 inches cost $7.95. It would not go on the mainshaft
(the
diameter of the mainshaft is 1.250 inches). I measured the I.D. of the washer
and found
it to oval not round. One dimension was 1.250 inches ,the other perpendicular
to the
first was 1.245 inches. I sent it back. They told me Dave would "mike" it up
and call me.
I ordered a new one from VBrit. #2-2554 $12.95 as well as Moss #848-750 and
found the
same problem. None would go on the shaft. I'm now off to my friendly machine
shop to
have the problem solved-they bail me out every time. Has anyone been here
before.
