The front spoiler is added to improve handlig buy preventing front end
lift at high speeds, which could lead to excessively light steering and
steering wander on fast roads.
My Spit 1500 has the front spoiler, and the numberplate obscures most of
the grill, preventing air from entering it. Alot of people move the
plate down onto the spoiler to improve cooling, but I would say that
improving cooling was not a major (or even minor) reason that the
spoiler was added, it was purely to correct a handling fault.
