I'm having a bit of problems getting my carb sorted after a
rebuild.

I have a '64 Herald 12/50 with a Solex B30 carb. I rebuilt the
carb recently with a Zenith overhaul/repair kit and it seemed
to have gone pretty smoothly yet I have a host of new problems.

Reinstalling the carb was a snap and I triple checked that I didn't
leave anything off the thing ( I have rebuild Ford carbs before).

The engine started like a champ and I had no trouble getting it
to idle pretty smoothly, but now it's doing weird things. I'll describe
them below and humbly await any advice as to why this is occurring...

After starting fine and idling fine, I drive it for awhile and it starts
to get rather erratic at slow speeds. In 4th gear on the highway it
doesn't seem to do anything wrong and in fact seems to have a bit
more pep since the rebuild, but in 1st and 2nd after the car has
warmed up, it occasionally 'bucks' a bit, often when I back off the
throttle quickly but mostly I have trouble keeping the engine from
stalling when at a stop. This only occurs after the engine is fully
warm; the first few minutes of operation being fairly trouble-free.

I followed the rather poor tuning instructions from the Haynes
Manual, but I'd appreciate input as to what the vacuum level
should be (I have a vacuum gauge) and what idle rpm speed this
car should have.

cheers,

Brendan (bhp@star.le.ac.uk)
