I recently received and installed K&N air filters in my TR6. Filters came
from TRF and are for the stock air cleaner housing. I noticed that the
filters are quite different in size from my old Fram's. The dimensions are
as follows (non-proportional font recommended for the following columns to
line up):
Fram K&N
height (thickness) 2" 2-3/16"
inside diam. 4-13/16" 5-5/16"
outside diam. 6-3/4" 7"
The number on the filter is A070B8.
The Fram's inside diameter is such that is fits nice and snug onto the lip
on each half of the filter housing. The K&N instead is much too loose for
the diameter of the lip. Further, and more important IMO, the Fram allows
the housing halves to properly mate. The K&N's are 3/16" thicker and must be
"compressed" to allow the housing halves to mate up into a seal.
Has anyone else who installed K&N's in their stock air filter housing found
this? Or do I have the wrong filters?
Thanks for any help.
