I use a folding, strap-on bike rack.  Don't recall the brand, maybe Rhode
Gear or Blackburn.  They all pretty much work the same way.  Mine unfolds
to a have 2 rectangular U's perpendicular to each other, that contact the
car (rubber padding on contact surfaces.  One U sits on top of the trunk
(works with the luggage rack, too) and the other rests just about on the
license plate.  Various straps with vinyl-covered flat hooks hook onto the
trunk lid and bumper.  Two adjustable (for angle ) arms stick out the back
for the bikes.  Yes, 2 full-size bikes actually clear the ground, with
their wheels on.  They *do* stick out awfully far beyond the sides of the
TR, though.
