Well, here I am with only 5 days to go before British Car Week, and I'm
still trying to get the remains of the "Great Winter Project" finished up
(so what else is new?) I have a '73 TR6 with overdrive, and there are 3
isolator switches festooning the top cover. Two of them are to sense the
engagement of 2 - 4 gears for the O.D., and one to operate the reverse
lamps. Now on to the problem: the reverse lamps are on all the time,
even when the car is out of gear, and also, the O.D. solenoid gets
energized in all 4 forward gears, and as an added bonus, in reverse as
well! Sooooo...
1st question: What is going on inside those switches? Is there some way I
can test them to see if they are o.k. and not shorting out? How do they
work?
2nd question: Why do I have so much unwanted juice, and how can I fix it?
The wiring diagram in my Bentley's is a little short on specifics.
Observation: There are also 2 dangling lucar connectors in the harness
that were for the (now removed, but not missed) seatbelt buzzer. I think
they were also plugged onto an isolator switch terminal, but I don't know
how or where. Could this be part of my problem?
Anyway, everything worked last Fall when I started my transmission rebuild,
but I foolishly took the harness and the switches off to clean the top
cover ass'y, and didn't make a diagram or mark anything.
