Fellow Triumphiles-
I've been following the thread on the electronic
ignition installation and have found it enlightening.
I've got a MK I Spit with a weak distributor:
bushing is shot, vac advance has a torn diaphragm.
I've thought of replacing the unit using the Mallory
dual-point distributor I've seen advertised.
Although the MK I spit isn't listed as an application,
I think the shaft will fit and I can use the old
drive dog. I may have to go to a ballasted ignition
(I believe mine is non-ballasted), but not sure.
Anyone out there in Lucas-land ever installed one
of these? Although I'm leaning towards the vac
advance model, should I consider the mechanical-only
advance model? Or should I just skip it, go to the
local automotive-recycling-center, pull a distributor
that's in better shape than mine and convert it to
electronic ignition? This is for a driver, not
concourse or auto-x and it's an 1149cc MK I/II engine.
Thanks!
