Hold the gun at a small angle off vertical and so that it
"pushes" the welder along. Do a bit at a time if the metal
is thin, let it cool and it won't warp.

Either is fine, I use argomix, but mostly because that is what
the salesman gave me when he asked what I had and what I wanted
to do with it. No troubles.
