oy, all of ewes (as my brother in law might say)

Bosch platimuimumum's are just craaaap for our cars UNLESS
-yours burns no oil
-yours has a 60,000 volt CD ignition
-you send a special notice to BMW indicating your desire to use Deutsch
parts on your LBC.

Seriously, I bought into this theory when platinims first came out for my
TR4a and they made no difference - they fouled just as fast but unlike
Champions, they could be cleaned several times and still work.

Shortly thereafter discovered NGK's and have run them in ALL of my cars.
They are the ONLY plugs that work in race conditions on a Mazda RX7 and
they do very well on the TR's. I have used BPR6ES11 spec on my early '6
motor and GT6 with good result. This is the same plug as a BMW 528E and
some chevys - oddly enough. You can buy them most anywhere.

Now, for how come you don;t have a spare gapped set in the trunk?

Besides my desire to tinker once a month on Saturdays with the whole tune
up thingy, having a spare set of "known working unit" is handy. Ditch your
current cap, rotor, wires, plugs (and if possible, the whole points and
breaker plate assembly). All this will fit in a small tupperware container
and still have room for a screwdriver and plug wrench. Next time you have
a breakdown and you think it is ignition related you can very easily
eliminate the possibility.

Now, carrying a spare set of piston rings might be a bit silly, but...
