If the surface underneat is pitted, then it's a dead giveaway. The fuel
pump itself is a simple device. If the corrosion is bad enough that the
pump chamber can't seal, you need a new pump. Otherwise you just have to
be sure that the valves work, and that the diaphragm has room to flap back
and forth.
