Sorry to say this, but I reckon you've rebuilt your gearbox for nothing, that
is assuming you have an overdrive, Apparently there were a lot of badly made
J type overdrives around the late 70's, If I remember correctly, it's the one
way clutch in the OD unit that is at fault! If you have a d-type OD then I
seem to recall hearing that some of these had a bad casting for the adaptor
plate. Coming off the clutch plate in the OD are 4 threaded bars, these are
used to hold a steel bar which the hydraulic pistons push against(Yeah, I know
a crap description, but it's the best I can do :-)), anyway, in the adaptor
plate are 4 holes that the ends of these threaded bars fit into, on the dodgey
casting these holes are not quite in line so that the clutch as a unit cannot
move correctly.
But anyway, assuming that you have a J-type overdrive I would say that your
problem most probably lies with the one way clutch in the OD!!!
Cheers
Rich
ps, If you don't have OD, I ain't got a clue. :-)
