In a former life, I worked in an insurance agency that represented Safeco. Good
size national company. Very, very conservative. Wouldn't take someone as a
customer unless his driving record was squeaky clean and his personal habits
above reproach.
They didn't seem to be interested in insuring "Joe Six-Pack" just "professional
people" -not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's what they want to
do.
Just my opinion on their corporate philosophy. Of course, things could have
changed since then. Some companies, like Geico, will decline you if you tell
them
that you had a reckless op citation 23 years ago when you were 21. I'm out.
Some
will decline you for auto coverage if you tell them you occasionally use
alcohol
socially but never get behind the wheel afterwards. Oops, that'll weed out a
few more listers. Most companies want to limit their risks and would like to
insure pig iron underwater against the risk of fire only. Most think you're an
unusual risk if you don't fit their desired profile of two late models in an
upscale home in the 'burbs.
Okay, enough cynicism for now.
