I need some quick help from someone who remembers
how to remove the headlamp switch from the
instrument panel (1977/78 Spitfire). The switch
is attached to a rectangular, black plastic (and
maybe alumninum?) trim component/plinth which is SOMEHOW
secured in a rectangular hole in the central
dash panel. I have removed the dash panel,
but couldn't discover (last night in the dark)
the secret handshake needed to remove the
headlamp switch.
For grins, I stopped at NAPA this morning to see
what type of aftermarket replacement headlamp
switch they might have (anticipating I might someday
figure out how to get mine out!). I was amazed
at the similarity of their P/N HL6049 ($7.99) to
the part that is in my car. It is not exactly identical,
as the NAPA part has a threaded neck with two nuts
to secure it into a circular hole, while the original
seems to be mounted somehow to this black plastic
plinth without use of a threaded neck.
Please advise direct to r-james@tamu.edu if you
know the secret to removal of this switch. Thanks
in advance,
Ray James
