You could try acme threads.  Acme threads are square threads used in
clamps and vises.  The down side is the pitch is much steeper, less
threads per inch.  You'll need more torque to tighten them but you'll
need less turns.

You won't find acme thread in the average hardware stores, you'll have
to look in the Yellow Pages under Steel.
