I cannot speak with authority on GT6s, but I did install a set of
K&Ns without the stock filter box on my TR6.
While I recognize the benefits of using a still air box and cold air
ducting, I went the "easy" route because I am lazy, cheap and I want a
relatively uncluttered engine bay, so I chose the K&N air filters with their
chromed pods.
For me, it was a simple bolt on. They did lean out the mixture, but my car
was running a tad rich, so it worked out perfectly. What I noticed was that
the car was much more willing to spin past 5000 rpm, all the way to 6000 which
was not possible with the stock air cleaners. They make a cool sound above
4000 rpm, like "the sound of ripping canvas" (to steal some words from the
Alfa folk). One of the better and less expensive mods to my car.

PS. More on the clean hands thread - I forgot to mention that I scrape my
fingernails across a bar of soap before working on the car. This will ensure
your fingernails stay absolutely clean.
