Phil,
I've owned several early Mustangs and love them as well. The '69 and '70
models were very similar, the major differences being:
1--'69 had four headlights--2 in the headlight bezels forward of the fenders
and 2 in the grille; the '70 retained only the lights in the grille and
replaced the others with twin horizontal air intakes.
2--the '69 Mustang was the last of the cars to have a quarter panel ornament on
the body line (the "C" scoop, as it is known) In '70 they dropped the
ornament, leaving a much cleaner look.
3--The taillights on a '69 are three individual lenses per side, protruding
slightly from the taillight panel. On a '70, they went to a one-piece lens
with a bezel that splits it into three sections, and is mounted flush with the
panel.
Those are the major differences I can think of. Of course, running gear was
the same, with anything from a 250 6 cyl with a 3 spd up to the 428 Super Cobra
Jet being available. Six-cylinder convertibles are a good buy, there is a '69
in today's Fresno Bee for $6500.
