For those of you with Spitfires contemplating a rebuild in the near future, I
would highly recommend putting in the 9 to 1 pistons over the 7.5 to 1 units.
The improvements in low and mid range torque, where you actually do most all
of your driving, will be apparent.
Speaking of Spitfire rebuilds, I am at the moment planning on having at least
one Spit 150 motor for sale at the Hudson VTR meet this summer. Well, more
likely what I will have is a basic 1500 short block, balanced and blueprinted.
A lot like the motor in the Killer Spit. And I should have a selection of
heads to fit on it, so you can bolt the two items together yourself. If you
want a custom engine, delivered in Hudson, let me know.
Speaking of the Killer Spit and motors, if I get the time and inclination, I
may just put together a "VTR special." You see, running in the SCCA class that
we do, the motor mods are limited. The VTR rules are a bit more lenient, in
the area of cams and compression. And missing out on FTD by *that* much last
year, a little extra power couldn't hurt...
