There is a blurb in the British Victoria catalog that states that it was
common pratice for dealers in the US to 'date' the cars for the year they
were sold rather than the year they were manufactured.

Carl, thanks. This is another piece of info for the thread. So far the STC
has been touted as "Standard Triumph Company" and several others. The
problem has not been completely solved but it appears that someone (dealer
or regional distributor) "re-yeared" the cars in order to be able to sell
them as new cars without a price reduction. Cheers.
