Another important reason why wide tires and narrow rims don't mix: A tire that is too wide for a given wheel width will allow much more sidewall deflection than that same tire on the proper wheel width. Therefore, you may spend a load of $dough$ thinking you're buying into improved handling and response, but indeed you are taking one step forward and several steps back.
