<x-fontname>arial<fontfamily>arialYo Larry,
When I bought my Spit, I noticed that the mount for the left front sway bar was
failing.
When it finally did fail, I too wondered whether I should weld a piece in
place, or
come up with the $130 for a new A-arm. While shopping around, I found that
a new A-arm was being advertised by www.spitbits.com for $70.
I had never used they for parts before, but when I found they also had a sale
on
poly bushings, I gave them a call. It turns out that they would sell me a
"good used" A-arm for $40. After confirming that I could return this part if
not
happy (or at least he said I could), I ordered one. When it came (in under a
week),
I was very happy with it's condition.
The design of the mounting plate looks very weak, so I think that I will still
be
adding some beef to it, but $40 is a lot easier to handle that $130, every if
it
requires some re-work so I will not have to replace it again.
I too would be interested to see if this is a common failure of these cars.
cheers
