Hello List

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions the the problems that I had been
having with my '57 TR3. The suggestions that I have received are:

1) hydraulic problem - are any flex hoses (2 up front, one in
rear) kinked or collapsed? -Malcolm

2) stickimg in the front calipers, they will do it after sitting for a short
time and usually free them selves-up, but will periodically re-stick - Fred
Thomas

3) parking brake mechinism inside the drum stuck is partially engauged,
causing the brakes to drag - markg4269@toast.net

4) a tiny bit of air in the system, and when that worked its way out, bingo!
Brakes _all_ the time or line clogged or a sticky piston in the master
cylinder - mdporter@rt66.com

5) bolt which screws into the pedal box and adjusts the travel of your brake
cylinder pushrod and pedal. If it is screwed too far in, this will stop the
brake cylinder leaver from coming out as far as it should and will put
partially acttivate your braking system (which would also activate your brake
light) or master brake cylinder is faulty or in need of a cleaning or
rebuild you master brake cylinder or purchase a new one. - Barry Shefner

6) It sounds like master cylinder problems. It's a hydraulic problem; the
TR3A brake switch is in the hydraulic line. - Brent

7) rust/dirt buildup in the bushings at the top of the clutch/brake pedal
pivot. - John

8) a brake hose or 2 that have broken down and stopped up.Or the master cyl.
is gumed up. - Leon St. Hilaire

9) flexible hoses in your brake/clutch hydraulics - Bill Sohl

10) hydrovac unit which is at fault... Albert S.O. Luyon via Ken Streeter

What I did:
I checked the brake hoses.. all fine. Then I checked the petals by unhooking
the cotter pins and they were fine too. I was surprised that the problem
seems to have been narrowed down to the brake master cylinder. Last year I
rebuilt the clutch and brake masters (and wheel cylinders too) with a kit
from Vicky B. But in looking at the master when I took it out, the parts were
made in Austrailia. When I dumped out the brake fluid into a jar and it was
mostly clear, but there was some black goo that came out too. I decided to
use my Apple Hydraulics gift certificate that I won at last year's TCOC
Gathering in Winston Salem and send it off for a professional rebuild.
I'll update everyone when I get it back.
