not quite true (the horrible piston speed is true). I remember some TR Register
meetings where we were in a hurry so we took the autobahn and went almost full
speed with all cars for over an hour. And that means all running over 100 mph.
I even used to go that speed (in OD to reduce RPM) with my Spitire for Munich -
Hamburg (about 600 miles).
These days I`m a little bit older and have enough things to fix at my cars so I
travel convenient between 80 and 100 mph.

100mph = 160 kmh
- Spitfire 1500, regular 70 hp engine runs 160-170 kmh
- TR4, tuned engine, PO said to have 140 hp, runs over 190 kmh
(as rebuilding is in progress, I haven't that done for years.)
- Stag, regular Triumph engine, should run over 190 kmh
never got that, as you see in my .sig engine is blown up.
I traveled at 130 kmh for about 2 hours, when I had to stop at a traffic
jam ... maybe the chain jumped because of the low oil pressure, or the tappet
got stuck first ... or both ... or something else ...
Highest speed I ever drove with my Stag where 100 mph for 2 hours at the cost
of an oil pump (see picture at the Triumph Home Page/ Maintenance section)
Take care ... and you now have Montana, or ???
