Japan still drives on the left side of the road, although I use the work driving
in a very loose sense (they spend most of their time bumper to bumper in slowly
moving traffic jams). These jams are such a problem in all the major cities
that convenience stores like 7-11 quite openly sell 'car toilets' (plastic bags
with tubes etc). In-car navigation screens which convert to TV while the cars
are stationary is also a very popular factory option these days.
However, one thing that Japan still holds out for though is putting the
indicators and windscreen wipers on the original side (ie indicators on the RHS
and wiper controls on the LH). This can still be confusing when jumping out of
my modern Euro-coupe into an equally modern Jap-coupe - I look forward to the
day I can say LBC again.
